November 26, 2011 - According to reports eight people were injured in a Huntington Beach boat explosion on Saturday.
According to the Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol eight people were injured in a boat explosion that occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. Saturday, in Huntington Harbor.
According to Deputy William Nelson there were nine people aboard a 26 foot power boat at the time of the incident. Eight of the people were injured in the explosion and Deputy Nelson stated that explosions are normally due to a gas leak and a spark that can occur when starting the engine.
Residents as far away as Seal Beach reported hearing the explosion that caused windows to rattle.
Trinidad Island resident Yvonne Wachter stated that the family had to close their windows, due to the odor of burning plastic, after the boat explosion occurred. The eight people that were injured were transported to area hospitals, according to Deputy Nelson. Their conditions have not been reported.
