Cruise Ship with Dinner Passengers Runs Aground Off Maui

January 1, 2011-According to reports a dinner cruise ship ran aground off Maui with 60 passengers aboard.

According to Coast Guard Petty Officer Anthony Soto the dinner cruise ship the Spirit of Lahaina was leaving the Maui Lahaina Harbor when it ran aground. The incident involving the 65 foot cruise ship occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m.

There were sixty passengers aboard the ship at the time of the incident and a privately operated boat came to its aid.

The Coast Guard sent a boat to the scene of the incident to monitor the Good Samaritan boat rescuing the sixty passengers. They are investigating what caused the dinner cruise ship, the Spirit of Lahaina to run aground.
