Ship Volunteer Dies After Falling Overboard

July 19, 2010-According to reports a man that fell overboard the Star of India died after landing in the water.

The man that died was a Coronado volunteer that has been identified as 68 year old Gregory Vance Gushaw. He died after falling from the mast of the Star of India and hitting his head on the ship before falling in the water, according to officials.

The accident occurred on Sunday morning when Gushaw feel between 40 and 50 feet from the sailing ships mast.

Another volunteer jumped into the water to rescue Gushaw and according to reports the man was unconscious.

Witnesses that saw Gushaw fall helped the worker out of the bay and called 911.
